Douglas County Patty Lane Barn Fire
South Metro Barn Fire
On December 4th, 2023 at 21:48 South Metro Fire Rescue responded to an outbuilding fire at 9480 Patty Lane in Douglas County. When Firefighters arrived, the structure was completely engulfed, threatening an adjacent home and spreading into the vegetation. Engine 46 and Tender 46 positioned in the driveway and use their tank water to protect the house and prevent the fire from spreading. To complicate this dangerous situation, the nearest fire hydrant is about 1-mile away at Tammy Lane and Hess Rd. Tenders were used to shuttle water from that fire hydrant to the scene, each carrying 3000 gallons per trip. The water was dumped into portable tanks at the driveway and drafted out by an Engine to supply hose lines. With embers falling in the dry fields nearby, 2 wildland units were special called to the scene. Those crews patrolled the area watching for brush fires. The incident was placed under control around 22:30 but Firefighters remained on scene overnight extinguishing hot spots. No animals or humans were injured and fire investigators are working to determine what caused the fire. Additional information provided by South Metro Fire Rescue
