At 12:26 on July 12th, 2024 West Metro Fire Rescue responded to a report of a airplane crash at Sharpe Trail Ridge Open Space and Roxborough Park Rd. Jeffcom advised that info from South Metro Fire Rescue of a “Mayday” was reported from a experimental airplane unknown of number of passengers of the crash and with the exact location was not known. The Douglas County’s helicopter was requested to assist in searching for potential wreckage. The helicopter crew found the plane a few miles southwest of Sedalia, landed, and then helped the pilot to walk out to where a medic unit with West Douglas County Fire Protection District was waiting to evaluate him. At the crash scene, West Metro firefighters checked for potential fuel leaks, and then dug a fire line around the site for safety. The pilot told our crew that the plane’s engine was sputtering and then lost power at about 2,000 feet. However, he was able to land it, with damage to the one of the wings and the propeller. The plane is a home built Vans RV-4, single engine aircraft and built in 1993. Additional information provided by West Metro Fire Rescue
