At approximately 13:30 on April 15th, 2024 the Fort Carson 911 Communications Center and El Paso County 911 began receiving 911 calls reporting smoke on Fort Carson, along Hwy. 115 at Turkey Creek Rd. Fort Carson Fire & Emergency Services were dispatched to the area to investigate. While enroute, crews received updates that the fire had started in a remote training area, Range 127. Once Fort Carson units were able to get a size up of the fire they began requesting mutual-aid from surrounding agencies due to extreme fire weather conditions. While crews attempted to control the fire, Sawyer and Swamper teams widen lines dug with hand tools to prevent the fire from getting out of the containment area. Firefighters continued to work into the night and next several days containing the fire; as of April 17th, 2024 the fire was reported to be 1,450 acres with 20% containment. The fire was cause by training operations on US Army post, Fort Carson.
