At 07:45 on June 16th, 2024 Douglas Regional 911 dispatched the Larkspur Fire Protection District and Castle Rock Fire Rescue to I-25 northbound, near the Spruce Mountain Rd exit for an aircraft emergency. On scene, emergency crews discovered, discovered a twin engine Tecnam P2006T while attempting to make an emergency landing on the interstate when it hit an interstate sign causing it to crash into the East Plum Creek. After cutting through the wildlife fence, responders trekked through heavy brush and found the patients and the plane upside-down in waist high water. Once crews evacuated both patients, they were stabilized and transported to an area hospital. Fire crews remained on scene mitigating the leaking fuel from the plane and prevented the leak from contaminating the creek. The crash is under investigation by the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) and National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB). Additional information provided by the Larkspur Fire Protection District.
