EVRAZ Steel Mill Fire

In the afternoon of April 5th, 2024 Pueblo City 911 Communications and Pueblo County 911 Communications began receiving reports that the EVRAZ Steel Mill was on fire. The Pueblo Fire Department, Pueblo West Fire Department, Pueblo Rural Fire Department, Pueblo County Sheriff’s Office Emergency Services Division, & West Park Volunteer Fire Department were dispatched to the EVRAZ Steel Mill located on along Interstate 25 in Pueblo. As crews arrived on scene they discovered the fire had broken out in a building used for storage and staging of resources and the building had already been evacuated. Heavy smoke could be seen for miles, as far north as the City of Fountain in neighboring El Paso County. As fire resources in Pueblo city and county dwindled mutual aid was requested from neighboring Otero County and Huerfano County. Crews continued firefighting efforts well into the night and next 2 days. At 15:45 on April 7th 2024, the fire was declared 100 percent contained by officials.
