On March 21st, 2024 at 15:22 Weld County Regional Communications Center dispatched Platteville Gilcrest Fire Protection District to a ground cover fire at County Rd. 46 and County Rd. 29 on the east side of Hwy. 60. Crews arrived to a large ground cover fire that was spreading to approximately 20 acres and crews started working on containment. Incident command requested additional mutual-aid and assistance from the State for a fixed wing airdrop. The marshland made the initial fire attack difficult to maneuver the fire apparatus which provided a challenge in containing the fire. Drone operations were used by PGFPD personnel to help with fire tactics. No structures or vehicles were reported damaged. One patient was assessed for minor injuries and released on scene. The fire burned around 50 acres with most of it being either agricultural land or marshland alongside a creek bed.
