Weld County Groundcover Fire
On April 7th, 2024 at 16:32 Weld County Regional Communications Center dispatched New Raymer/ Stoneham Fire Protection District to a reported groundcover fire on Weld County Rd. 149 south of Stoneham. Brush 3333 arrived to a wind driven groundcover fire spreading to the east to Weld County Rd. 151. Command requested a 2nd alarm and mutual-aid response. Several community members with plows and water supply also help fight the fire. No injuries were reported and no structures were lost. The fire burned an estimated 230 acres and was caused by a down power line. Xcel energized their lines and found that in fact their decades-old lines and infrastructures can’t handle any sort of winds.
