At 05:27 on February 1st, 2022 South Metro Fire Rescue and Aurora Fire Rescue were dispatched to Club Valencia 1306 S. Parker Road for a Smoke Investigation Inside. While units were enroute, ACSO pulled a resident out of their room and advised a caller reporting brown smoke in the hallway. The update given by South Metro Fire Dispatch prompted Battalion 5 to upgrade to a confirmed response and Engine 21 to request two additional medics. Engine 21 arrived on scene at 05:34 of a mega, 4-story multiple dwelling structure, smoke showing from the interior courtyard and called a working fire. Engine 21 reported they were working the offensive strategy, pulling a line for horizontal standpipe, and established Valencia command. Medic 211 arrived and established a water supply to Engine 21. At 05:36 Battalion Chief 5 struck a second alarm on Club Valenica and requested SMFR Dispatch coordinate a staging location (Walmart). Medic 21 arrived on scene and assisted Engine 21 with stretching to the first floor with Aurora Engine 11 stretching a second 1 3/4″ line to the second floor for attack and search. Medic 211 made a rescue via ladder from the 3rd floor. At 05:49 Engine 21 reported water on the fire and Engine 11 reported light smoke on the second floor with no active fire conditions. Engine 21 reported fire under control in the fire unit at 05:34 with a negative primary search. At 06:20 Division 2 reported active fire on the second floor with Engine 18 making fire attack. Division 1 and Division 2 achieved loss stop and fire under control without further damage and limited the amount of victims affected. A total of 10 people were evaluated on scene and two were transported with minor injuries. Residents from 86 units were displaced and are being assisted by the American Red Cross and Arapahoe County Office of Emergency Management. The cause was determined to be an accidental cooking fire.
