
Clear Creek Canyon Injured Hiker Rescue
Back Country Rescue
On February 11th, 2026 at 10:50 Golden Gate Fire Protection District, Golden Fire Department and Stadium Medical responded for a back country rescue with a injured hiker in clear creek canyon by Tunnel 2. Jeffcom 911 advised that caller reporting that the patient is on the trail up from the highway between Tunnel 1 and Tunnel 2 in clear creek canyon. Battalion 21 arrived to the area by Tunnel 2 and started the investigation and requested to put AirLife on airborne standby. Medic 22 and Rescue 21 arrived to the area to set-up for the rescue on the roadway. AirLife 3 was able to hover over the injured patient to help crews located the area for the rescue. Due to difficult access, Alpine Rescue Team was requested with mutual-aid to assist at 11:58. UTV 81 was able to get close to the patient from Travois Trail but then had to hike in with the rough terrain and Brush 83 hiked in the from the Centennial Cone Trailhead. The patient was located 800 feet to the base of the canyon and after a multi pitch lowering operation and high line across clear creek canyon was complete the patient was transferred to Medic 22. The patient was transported to a local trauma center in serious condition. The highway was shutdown during the rescue. Additional information provided by Golden Fire Department
