Black Hawk Fire Department, (BHFD), covering 11 square miles in Gilpin & Clear Creek Counties (Colorado) including the areas of Cottonwood Gulch, Fourmile Gulch,  Gold District, Gregory Hill, Hidden Treasure Trailhead, Jelly Roll Gulch, Maryland Mountain, Miners Mesa, Roosevelt National Forest, Russell Gulch, Signal Hill, Silver Gulch, Smith Hill & Quartz Valley. Black Hawk Fire Department was established in 1879 as the Black Hawk Fire & House Company No. 1 and later as the Black Hawk Volunteer Fire Department. In 1993 Black Hawk Fire Department became a paid department after 114 years as all-volunteer.

Black Hawk Fire Department has an auto-aid / or mutual-aid agreements with Central City Fire Department, Clear Creek Fire Authority, Golden Fire Department, Golden Gate Fire Protection District & Timberline Fire Protection District.

Black Hawk Fire Department (40) is dispatched by the Black Hawk Communications Center.
