Eagle River Condo Fire

At approximately 11:30 Eagle River Fire Protection District was dispatched to a report of a structure fire on at the Beaver Bench Condominium Complex on West Beaver Creek Blvd. in Avon. On arrival, smoke and flames were visible from a ground floor unit on the back side of Building A. All residents and pets were safely evacuated from the building, and crews began an offensive attack. The fire was under control by approximately 13:00 Crews remained on scene for a few more hours, conducting overhaul and checking for hot spots in the attic space. The fire was called completely out at approximately 16:30.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation. At least six units have been declared uninhabitable; the other 12 units will be re-evaluated once the investigation is complete and building officials have determined it is safe to re-enter. One patient was transported to the hospital for smoke inhalation; no other injuries were reported. Approximately 15 residents and several pets have been displaced, and are being assisted by the American Red Cross and Vail Valley Salvation Army in obtaining lodging, clothing, toiletries and other necessities. The Eagle County Animal Control and Shelter is assisting with pet needs. An engine from Summit Fire & EMS Authority provided coverage in Vail to allow Vail crews to assist in Avon.
