Black Hawk Fire Department, (BHFD), covering 11 square miles in Gilpin & Clear Creek Counties including the towns and areas of Cottonwood Gulch, Fourmile Gulch, Miners Mesa, Jelly Roll Gulch, Roosevelt National Forest, Russell Gulch, Signal Hill, Silver Gulch & Smith Hill. (FDID # 04705)

Black Hawk Fire Department was established in 1879 as the Black Hawk Volunteer Fire Department. In 1993 became a paid department after 114 years as all-volunteer.
