Wheat Ridge Fire Protection District (WRFPD), founded in 1926 and covered 12 square miles in Jefferson County (Colorado) including the towns and areas of Applewood, Bass Lake, Cambridge, Crown Hill, Edgewater, Highland Gardens, Jefferson County Library Service Center, Johnson Park, Kullerstrand, Lakeside, Lakewood, Lakeview, Lake Rhoda, Lena Gulch, Lewis Meadows Open Space, Lewis Turner Park, Lumberg, Lutheran Medical Center, Maple Grove, Melrose, Memorial Park, Morningside, Mountain View, Panorama Park, Paramount Heights, Paramount Park, Prospect Valley, Randall Park, Richards-Hart Estate, Rocky Mountain Ditch, Stites Park, Terra Village, Van Hooser Bridge, Walker-Branch Park, Westhaven, West Lake, Wheat Ridge Greenbelt, Wilmore Davis & Ye Olde Firehouse. Wheat Ridge Fire Protection District was a member of the Tri-County Volunteer Firemen’s Association.
Wheat Ridge was on frequency 151.310.
Wheat Ridge Fire Protection District was originally formed in 1926 as the Wheat Ridge Volunteer Fire Department. In 1942 the Wheat Ridge Fire Protection District was formed. In 1971, the Prospect Valley Fire Department merged with the district. Columbia Heights Fire Department merged in 1974. Wheat Ridge Fire Protection District took over fire service to the Edgewater Fire Department in 2013 and merged with West Metro Fire Rescue in 2016.
