At approximately 11:45 on April 15th, 2022 Denver Fire Department, South Metro Fire Rescue, and Aurora Fire Rescue were dispatched to a reported structure fire in the area of the Topaz at Indian Creek Townhomes, 1885 South Quebec Way. Numerous callers reported the fire and heavy black smoke could be seen miles away. At 11:50 South Metro District Chief 1 requested the call be upgraded to a confirmed structure fire with multiple reporting callers and dispatch changed the structure type to a multi-family assignment. South Metro Engine 21 arrived on scene to a large two-story garden-style multi-family structure with a working fire on both the first and second floors, stretched a 2 1/2″ attack line for fire attack off of tank water, confirmed the address as being in Denver Fire’s jurisdiction and took Quebec Command with heavy fire and smoke from the alpha side. Denver Fire Dispatch upgraded its assignment at 11:56 to a second alarm, adding additional units. A fire victim was found on the front porch covered in smoke and transported by Denver Health to a medical center. Command reported 360 complete with fire from both sides of the structure, reported a defensive strategy on the Alpha unit, and offensive on the rest of the structure. Engine 31 arrived second-in and performed a primary search on the Delta 1 Exposure. A detached garage exposed to the main fire also sustained fire damage and was attacked by Denver and South Metro. Battalion 5 arrived and established a unified command with Chief 4. One dog was rescued and unharmed. The fire was reported under control by command 50 minutes into the incident. The fire displaced several residents and four units sustained heavy damage, the cause of the fire is under investigation by the Denver Fire Department.
