Aurora Apartment Fire

On May 13th, 2025 at 10:11 Aurora Fire Rescue responded to a residential fire near in the 16oo block of E Whitaker Drive. Aurora 911 advised 911 caller reported that fire was burning on the walls of an apartment and started evacuating neighbors. Ladder 6 arrived to a two-story multi-family building with a working structure fire from the first floor and the call was upgraded to a confirmed working fire response. A second alarm was requested shortly after due to the high life hazard and possibility of fire extension. Ladder 6 crew was able to use a water extinguisher to slow the fire spread and Engine 7 deployed a hose line. Engine 11 easbalished the water supply. The fire was controlled within 5 minutes and the additional resources from the second alarm were cancelled. All searches of fire unit and neighboring units were clear, and crews prevented the flames from extending. No injuries occurred and one adult was displaced due to the damage and the American Red Cross was requested. An investigation determined the fire was accidental and started after an unattended candle spread to nearby furniture. Additional information provided by Aurora Fire Rescue
