Elbert Wildland Fire

At approximately 15:04 on March 3rd, 2025 the Douglas Regional 911 Communications Center dispatched Elbert Fire Protection District to the 23000 block of Elbert Rd. west of Kiowa Creek for a possible grass fire in a high wind warning. Crews arrived a large wildland fire with heavy winds moving in heavy timber and requested a helicopter for air operations. The helicopter requested was denied due to the weather. It was reported that the fire burned 600 acres. Additional information was provided by the Elbert Fire Protection District.
