South Table Mountain Fire

At 15:15 on March 9th, 2017 Fairmount Fire Protection District responded to a vegetation fire on the north side of South Table Mountain. Smoke was already visible from Hwy. 58 and mutual aid from Golden Fire Department and Pleasant View Fire Department was requested. Battalion 30 arrived at the W. 32nd Ave. side of Coors and assumed command. The 100×100 fire was burning in heavy fuels and steep terrain, spreading uphill and backing. Additional aid from Arvada Fire Protection District, West Metro Fire Rescue and Foothills Fire Protection District responded to the top of the mountain and worked a spreading grass fire. Rampart Helicopter 1UH made multiple bucket drops and was able to use a nearby reservoir to dip. One firefighter suffered minor injuries after a fall and was evaluated by AMR. Numerous crews remained on scene until around 23:00 when Fairmount units took over fire watch. Golden Police Department, Jefferson County Sheriff and MillerCoors Security provided traffic control in the area for fire operations.

On Friday March 10th additional resources from across the front range were assigned to start working on the fire line. The 35 acre fire was 0% contained as of 9 a.m.

A short time before the South Table Mountain Fire started, another working vegetation fire occurred at 32nd & McIntyre. Fairmount & West Metro contained it to one-quarter of an acre.
