At 16:00 on August 31st, 2018, a second round of thunderstorms with frequent lightning rolled off the foothills into Douglas County.  Motorists on U.S. Highway 85 spotted a small brush fire west of the highway and south of Airport Road.  South Metro Fire Rescue first arriving Engine 40 spotted the fire, worked on recon to determine best access and upgraded the incident to a Large Brush Fire.  Brush Engine 39 used a power line road to access the burn area and sized up just over an acre burning at a moderate rate of spread down-slope.  PIO 30 was assigned as Look Out and Command was transferred to Brush Engine 39.  A burst of heavy rain quickly knocked down all visible flames allowing the fire to be sufficiently contained by crews on scene.  All additional units were then cancelled.  No structures were threatened, no injuries occurred and lightning is suspected as the cause.
