Around 18:40 on May 14th, 2018 Pueblo West Fire Department was dispatched to Liberty Point on reports of a hiker that fell off of a cliff approximately 100 feet and was injured. Crews arrived and found the patient had fallen near railroad tracks that run through the Lake Pueblo State Park. Due to accessibility a helicopter was requested from Flight for Life however both Lifeguard 4 out of Pueblo and Lifeguard 3 out of Colorado Springs were unavailable. Command then requested CareConnect out of La Junta. While the helicopter was still enroute crews made access to the patient and packaged for removal. Crews from Pueblo West Fire, American Medical Response, and Parks and Wildlife carried the patient in a stokes basket out to AMR Medic 11. Command cancelled CareConnect due to an extended ETA and the patient was transported to the hospital. Additional story & information provided by Code 4 Photography.
