Wheat Ridge Kitchen Fire

At 11:27 on December 15th, 2018 Arvada Fire Protection District responded to a reported structure fire in the 9200 block of W. 48th Ave. in Wheat Ridge. Engine 52 & Medic 52 arrived on scene with nothing showing, but there were reports of parties trapped, and Engine 52 went into rescue and pulled a line in for fire attack in the offensive strategy. Smoke alarms were sounding from the apartment. Engine 52 knocked on the apartment door, with no response, forced the door and were met with heavy smoke and a fire on the stove. Engine 52 rescued one person who was sleeping in a bedroom and extinguished the fire. Crews found smoke showing inside a apartment unit, with one patient. Tower 56 remained on scene to assist with ventilation. All other units returned to service and to quarters. The cause of the fire was an unattended pan on the stove. No injuries reported, and the apartment sustained smoke damage. Additional photos, information and story by Tim McChesney.
