At 11:37 on July 30th, 2020 South Metro Fire Rescue responded to the south side of Cherry Creek State Park after several people called 911 and reported a brush fire. Smoke and flames were visible from Peoria St. and when crews arrived, they found a wood slash pile engulfed with flames. Firefighters protected the adjacent grass and nearby piles from igniting and worked to control the fire. A tractor from the state park was used to break apart the burning material so that it was easier to extinguish. With no fire hydrants nearby, Tender 34 was called to assist with their 3000-gallon water tender. No injuries occurred, no structures were threatened, and investigators were unable to determine what caused the fire. Additional information was provided by South Metro Fire Rescue
