2nd Alarm Apartment Fire

At 14:31 on October 5th, 2020 Thornton Fire Department responded to the 500 block of E. 88th Ave. on a apartment fire. Thornton Fire Communications Center advised multiple calls reporting that flames and smoke showing. Engine 71 arrived to heavy fire showing from the Alpha-Bravo corner, pulled a line in for fire attack, and requested a 2nd alarm and strike a major incident tone. Engine 72 arrived and started evacuation on the Charlie side, and started deck gun ops. Battalion 71 arrived and took command in the offensive strategy. Engine 14 pulled a line off Engine 71 to the second floor for fire control, Engine 75 established the water supply to Engine 71, and Medic 73 assigned as medical. With heavy fire conditions a withdrawal was requested from Command and the offensive fire was changed to defensive operations. Truck 62 & Truck 2 started master stream ops. Crews were able to get control of the fire and start an extensive overhaul and investigation. Two patients were transported with unknown injuries, and one cat was rescued in the fire.
