On July 15th, 2025 just before 14:00 South Metro Fire Rescue responded to a vegetation fire in the 6000 block of Ron King Trail off Hwy. 85. Crews arrived to a vegetation fire burning in dense timber, brush, and shrub oak in challenging terrain in the open space. Crews worked in rapidly changing weather conditions including heavy rain and lightning. Air support was requested with water drops from the Douglas County OEM Helitac and a dozer was used to cut a fire break around of the perimeter, while water drops and hand crews dug lines helping to contain the flames. No structures were damaged or threatened and no injuries were reported. The fire was put under control at 16:30 and crews remained on scene for extended mop-up with hot spots.
