Huron Fire
On February 25th, 2026 around 11:30 Adams County Fire Rescue Truck 11 was dispatched to an outside smoke investigation at the Pinnacle High School, 8412 Huron St. during a red flag warning day. Truck 11 arrived to a wind driven vegetation fire behind the high school and requested additional units to the scene. Truck 11 started structure protection of the high school and pulled a line for fire attack on the grass fire. Engine 41 arrived and started structure protection at W. 84th Ave & Fox St. and Engine 72 arrived north of W. 84th & Delaware St. with structure protection. The fire was contained around 14:00 and crews worked on an extended overhaul with hot spots. Local evacuations were requested and I-25 was closed in both directions from Thornton Parkway to W. 84th Ave. with limited visibility due to the heavy smoke conditions. No residential structures were damaged or burned, but several businesses did have structural damage and around 150 vehicles were burned at a car restoration business. Evacuations were set-up at Water World and then was moved to the Margaret Carpenter Recreation Center. The evacuations were lifted around 15:30. Crews remained on scene throughout the night and until the next day monitoring hots spots. The fire burned around 10 acres. One citizen and four firefighters suffered minor injuries in the fire. The cause of the fire is under investigation. Additional information provided by Thornton Fire Department
