West Metro South Table Mountain Fire
South Table Mountain Fire
At 18:47 on August 2nd, 2016 West Metro Fire Rescue responded to a vegetation fire on top of South Table Mountain, possibly from a lightning strike from a storm in the area. Engine 5, Engine 6 & Brush 6 access the fire from W. 20th Ave. on the Denver West side, through the NREL property. Additional crews also had to get access from Quaker St. side off Old Golden Rd. Crews found fire spreading from the winds on the south and east side. The fire was divided into two divisions and placed on separated radio talk groups. The Southeast Metro Taskforce was requested, but was cancelled when crews were able to get the fire under control around sunset, but some units responded or were en route. Crews worked on hot spots until 22:00 with 80% containment, and started a fire watch through the night. Although a Code Red Emergency phone notification was sent out, no structures were threatened. The fire burned about 29 acres. Mutual aid was requested from Golden Fire Department, Pleasant View Fire Department and Fairmount Fire Protection District.
