West Metro Garage Fire
At 09:51 on February 5th, 2019 West Metro Fire Rescue responded to a possible structure fire in the 14700 Garden Rd. at Indiana St. in Applewood. Engine 5 advised JeffCom that smoke in the air from W. 20th Ave. & Youngfield St. Engine 5 arrived to a single story residential with a fully involved garage fire, pulled a 1 ¾” for fast attack mode and life safety on the Alpha side, Medic 5 pulled a second line to the front door. Engine 17 arrived and started to secured a water supply, but a frozen hydrant prevented a water supply on Garden Rd. at Howell Rd. Crews secured a water supply at W. 29th Ave. at Isabelle St. Tower 2 arrived and split crews with vertical vent and primary search, Engine 2 assisted Medic 5 with fire attack inside the structure with heavy smoke conditions, and crews found fire that extended into the attic. District 1 arrived and assumed Garden Rd. command in the offensive strategy, assigned Medic 16 as medical group and Tower 8 as RIT, crews rescued a family cat inside the structure. The fire was put under control at 10:49, crews worked hot spots and an extended overhaul until 14:07. No injuries were reported and the fire was caused by space heater that was left on inside the garage area.
