On December 30th, 2021 at 10:27 Boulder County Communications dispatched crews to a grass fire near Middle Fork Rd. and N. Foothills Hwy. between Boulder and Lyons. RP reported a 20×20 fire with 3-4 foot flames and possible hazards with powerlines, while a second RP reported a small wildland fire. The first unit reported a 20×20 grass fire with structures threatened and established Middle Park Command. At 11:04 Middle Fork Command reported 30 to 40 acres on fire moving to the east and requested BoCo Plan 1, and at 11:07 the fire jumped Lefthand Creek. No structures were lost and crews were able to contain the fire later in the afternoon, and crews were relocated to the Marshall Fire in Superior.
