National Public Safety Telecommunications Week, established in 1981, is celebrated each year during the second week of April. The week-long event celebrates and honors telecommunications personnel who dedicate their lives to serving the public. 5280Fire visited with South Metro Fire Rescue Dispatch on April 15th, 2022.
The SMFR dispatch center provides fire and medical dispatching services to South Metro Fire Rescue and multiple volunteer fire agencies including Bennett-Watkins Fire Rescue, Byers Fire Protection District, Deer Trail Rural Fire Protection District, Sable Altura Fire Rescue, Strasburg Fire Protection District & West Douglas County Fire Protection District.
The Center also maintains an Incident Dispatch Team with special training to respond to major incidents to provide communications, logistics and planning services.
