On December 22nd, 2024 approximately 18:00 Jefferson County fire crews were alerted to a backcountry rescue in the Clear Creek Canyon on the west side of Tunnel # 2. Jeffcom advised that a base jumper crashed into the side of the mountain and sustained serious injuries. Crews arrived to find one victim located across the creek from the roadway, and about 60-80 feet up the slope of the hill. Mutual-aid was requested to assist with the technical rescue. Firefighters quickly accessed the patient and provided medical care while other responders began assembling a technical rescue rope system. Using a guiding line rope system and stokes basket, the patient was safely moved to the other side of the creek where further medical care awaited. Medic 21 transported the patient to a local hospital in stable condition. Additional information provided by Golden Fire Department and Arvada Fire Protection District
