Commerce City Structure Fire

At 12:31 on April 6th, 2024 AdCom 911 dispatched South Adams County Fire Department and Adams County Fire Rescue to the 6100 block of E. 62nd Ave. at Kearney St. for a possible structure fire. While enroute, AdCom advised responding units reporting party stated smoke and flames were coming from the rear of the building. Engine 22 visualized a smoke header coming from the area and upgraded the incident to a working fire. At 12:35, Engine 22 reporting the fire had then spread to a 2nd structure and they were evacuated the 2nd structure. A 2nd Alarm Assignment was then requested. At 12:39, Engine 26 reported they were inside the primary structure and had heavy fire in the basement. Battalion Chief 21 arrived and assumed 62nd Command, while Engine 13 established a water supply. Engine 26 advised command they were able to get a knock on the fire interior. Tower 24 was then able to partial primary of the primary structure but had to back out due to heat. Engine 26 then pulled a second attack line to aid in fire attack. Truck 28 arrived, established a water supply, and pulled another attack line to the Bravo side. Tower 24 exited the structure to grab an animal catching pole and then went back into the structure to rescue a dog hiding on the 2nd floor. Command then tasked Engine 22 to perform a secondary search of the Delta side. Truck 11 on-deck for the primary residence reported fire going through the roof. While doing fire attack in the basement, Engine 11 reported a good knock on the fire and that they would reposition to attack the fire in the attic. Truck 28 was able to get a good knock on the fire on the Charlie-Delta corner, and recommended Tower 24 establish a master stream from their aerial. Truck 11 entered the structure and took over for Tower 24 conducting a secondary search. Truck 11 then reported heavy fire in the attic and advised all units to evacuate the structure. Command then transitioned to defensive operations. Engine 13, Engine 22, Engine 27, & Truck 11 reestablished hand lines on the Delta side exposure. Tower 24 then requested Engine 26 to supply them for their master stream. While conducting their master stream, they requested a 2nd master stream from the Charlie side, Truck 28 was then reassigned to establish that master stream. Ambulance 24 then established rehab and Ambulance 22 assumed medical group. Truck 62 was moved up from staging and established RIT (Rapid Intervention Team). Engine 27 was reassigned to move to the Charlie side and pump Truck 28’s master stream. Truck 28 then advised that they were able to maintain their own master stream and Engine 27 could be reassigned. With the main body of fire extinguished, Engine 27 & Truck 62 were cleared from the scene. The American Red Cross was called to the scene to assist the displaced family. Once the fire was declared knocked down crews switched to salvage and overhaul operations. No injuries were reported by civilians and responders. The cause of the fire is currently under investigation by the South Adams County Fire Department.
