At 22:47 on December 7th, 2011 Evergreen Fire Protection District responded to a structure fire in the 26180 block of Kingsbury Rd. in Kittredge. Crews arrived to find  fully involved fire in half of a 2-story duplex, with reports that there were at least two parties still in the structure. Jefferson County Sheriff deputies were unable to make entry due to the intense heat and flames, and fire crews immediately tried to gain entry to attack the fire, but conditions did not allow this and the fire was changed to a defensive attack. Water shuttle was required and established, allowing firefighters to begin working to preserve the other half of the duplex. During this time, it was confirmed one party was still in the unit.  The fire was put back into an offensive attack about an hour later and crews gain entry into the structure. At 00:20 firefighters found a victim in the duplex, which was confirmed as a fatality. Crews were able to save the other side of the duplex. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
