North Area High-Risk Structural Collapse Scenario

Tech Rescue Team Training

On July 15th, 2022 the North Area Tech Rescue Training was held with a high-risk structural collapse scenario at the North Metro Fire Rescue Training Center. Approximately 160 firefighters on North Area Technical Rescue Team (NATRT) went through the training, several members of the NATRT are also members of Colorado Task Force 1. Crews from the 10 departments rotated through in shifts over the course of the entire day to work on various phases of the rescue. They were required to breach and break through concrete, burn and cut through steel, use equipment to stabilize an unstable structure and carefully rescue and move patients to safety. The 10 fire departments that make up the NATRT are Adams County Fire Rescue, Arvada Fire Protection District, Brighton Fire Rescue District, Federal Heights Fire Department, Frederick-Firestone Fire Protection District, Mountain View Fire Rescue, North Metro Fire Rescue District, South Adams County Fire Department, Thornton Fire Department and Westminster Fire Department.
