Timberline Fire Protection District was formed on April 1, 2011 when the Colorado Sierra Fire Protection District and the High Country Fire Protection District merged to form one district.

In 2017 the district took over Central City Fire Department Station 2 in Apex.

Timberline Fire Protection District has an auto-aid / or mutual-aid agreements with Black Hawk Fire Department, Boulder Emergency SquadCentral City Fire Department, Coal Creek Fire Protection District, Clear Creek Fire Authority, Golden Gate Fire Protection District, Nederland Fire Protection District & Sugar Loaf Fire Protection District.
