Denver Water Rescue Response On October 23rd, 2014 at approximately 14:00 Denver Fire Department was dispatched to a reported water rescue in confluence park. An empty kayak was observed stuck in the water near a closed off utility access area. Firefighter arrived on scene and recovered the kayak. Controlled Burn The U.S. Fish & Wildlife Service conducted a controlled burn at the Rocky Mountain Arsenal National Wildlife Refuge on October 23rd, 2014. USFWS plans on burning over 2,000 acres to invigorate growth of native vegetation, reduce litter, manage weeds and improve habitat for wildlife. The burn will also help reduce the risk of wildfires.

Station 3 Open House The Hudson Fire Protection District held an open house and expansion opening at Station 3 in Lochbuie on October 18th, 2014. The expansion provides quarters at the station to allow for an on duty crew 24/7. The community was invited out to meet with firefighters, check out the apparatus, tour the station and enjoy lunch.
Inter-Canyon Recruit Training The Inter-Canyon Fire Protection District conducted training for their recruits at Station 3, 8445 S. Hwy. 85 on October 18th, 2014. The recruits worked with ladders and practiced following a hose line out to safety in poor visibility. The district covers 55 square miles in Jefferson County and has five stations.
