Byers Large Vegetation Fire

On July 13th, 2024 at 10:10 Byers Fire Protection District with the I-70 corridor fire departments responded to a brush fire at 2490 S. Quail Hollow Rd. in unincorporated Arapahoe County. Brush 71 arrived to a slow moving fire with medium fuels moving to the south and started quick attack on the fire. The fire was upgraded to a large vegetation fire with flames getting into timber. Crews worked in over 100 degrees weather in heavy fire conditions. Strike Teams from Aurora and Denver Fire Departments were requested with other area departments with fire attack and structure protections. Evacuations in the area was prompted for several hours. The fire burned 1,150 acres with 4 homes were lost and 4 other structures lost. Three single engine air tankers and one helicopter provided air support operations with two large tractors with discs, three other smaller tractors and front end loaders also helped in the fire. No injuries were reported and the cause is under investigation.
