Dakota Ridge Fire
Around 14:00 on August 2nd, 2010 West Metro Fire Rescue was alerted of a fire off the shoulder of C-470 by Morrison Rd. exit in Dakota Ridge. Crews arrived to a wind-driven vegetation fire with heavy flames rapidly moving up the hill towards the Mount Glennon Park and growing from the highway, and requested more resources. Crews worked the fire in rugged terrain that spread up into the gambel oak and mountain mahogany. The wind changed directions and crews worked fire in steep and rocky terrain, complicating efforts to extinguish the fire. Water shuttle was used from nearby fire hydrants by tenders. By 19:00, a rainstorm moved into the area to help lie down the fire. Crews patrolled the Hogback overnight until the next day. Crews worked a line around the burn area using hand tools before the fire was put under control the next day. The cause is under investigation.
