The Woodland Heights Fire started around 11:55 on June 23rd, 2012 in the 1600 block of High Dr. and close to the Beaver Meadows entrance to Rocky Mountain National Park. Resources were requested when the flames started showing with the wind towards downtown Estes Park from the nearby High Park Fire burning in the Roosevelt National Forest in Larimer County. Helicopters filled their water at Lake Estes and Mary’s Lake, and a large evacuation order was requested. The fire burned over 27 acres and destroyed over 20 structures. The fire was 100% contained on June 26th, 2012. Investigators reported that the fire started when a power-line rubbed against a tree in heavy winds and started the wind-driven fire.
