Birdseye View Fire
On October 8th, 2021 at approximately 12:30 the Elbert Fire Protection District and Peyton Fire Protection District were dispatched to a porch fire in the 19000 block of Birdseye View. Firefighters arrived on scene and found a heavily involved residential structure fire. Additionally, fire had jumped the road and was headed up hill through a heavily wooded areas. Additional resources were called in from Black Forest, Calhan, Cimarron Hills, Colorado Springs Fire Department, Colorado Springs Utilities – Catamount Wildland Fire Team, Ellicott Volunteer Fire Department, Falcon, Fountain Fire Department, Security Fire Department and the DFPC Canon City Helitak crew. Firefighters spent the bulk of the afternoon dousing the initial house fire, establishing a perimeter and setting up structure protection. Crews monitored the fire overnight and returned early Saturday morning to continue their work. Firefighters will monitor the area for about a week to watch for hot spots and flareups. Firefighters believe the fire may have started from a smoker at the home that caught fire. The residence was a total loss.
