Lee Fire

The Lee and Grease fires were discovered on August 2nd, 2025 at 16:59 in Rio Blanco County as lightning strikes on Bureau of Land Management land in the Piceance area. The Lee and Grease fires quickly met to be known exclusively as the Lee Fire. Drought with severe and extreme weather conditions along with two days of red flag warning caused heightened fire activity. The Rocky Mountain Complex Incident Management Team 3 (CIMT3) took command of the fire on August 5th, 2025. The fire burned 137,758 acres as of August 30th, 2025 with 99% containment. Two homes were reported destroyed. The fire cause is by a lightning strike. Additional information provided by InciWeb (Incident Information System)
Currently the fire is the fifth largest in the state of Colorado since 2001 passing the (6) Spring Creek Fire (2018) at 108,045, (7) High Park Fire in 2012 which burned 87,284, (8) Missionary Ridge Fire in 2002 at 70,485, (9) West Fork Fire (2013) at 58,570 and (10) 416 Fire in 2018 at 54,129. The (1) Cameron Peak Fire (2020) is the largest in the state at 208,913, (2) East Troublesome Fire (2020) at 193,812, (3) Pine Gulch Fire (2020) at 139,007 and (4) Hayman Fire (2002) 137,760.
