Elk RBX Fire
The Elk RBX Fire was reported on August 2nd, 2025 at 12:41 in Rio Blanco County when the Rio Blanco County Sheriff’s Office Communications Center received reports of smoke in the area east of Meeker. The fire was actively burning in pinyon, juniper and oak brush fuels across private land, Colorado Division of Wildland State Land and Bureau of Land Management (BLM) land. A Type 3 Incident Management Team took command on August 3rd, 2025. The Rocky Mountain Complex Incident Management Team 3 (CIMT3) officially assumed command of the fire. The fire burned 14,518 acres and 100% containment on August 18th, 2025. Two homes are reported destroyed. The fire cause was by a lightning strike.
