On March 31st, 2023 around 14:15 Jeffcom dispatched West Metro Fire Rescue to a brush fire on the hogback near Alameda Ave. & C-470 and dispatched Mountain fire departments to Hwy. 93 off I-70 by Matthews / Winters Park. Utility 501 arrived to a wind driven wildland fire showing on both sides of the hogback and requested a 2nd alarm wildland fire for the mountain fire districts. Firefighters started fire attack on the Dakota Ridge. Several strike teams were requested for structure protection. Pre-evacuations were sent out to the areas of Rooney Road, Dinosaur Ridge, Thunder Valley, Town of Morrison and the sub-divisions of Solterra and Red Rocks Ranch.
